Every love story is beautiful. Ours also involves a lot of takeaways,
questionable karaoke and one extremely sunny fountain.
Chapter One
Two people, one very ordinary Tuesday
It didn't start with fireworks. It started with a conversation that refused to end, the kind where you look up and somehow it's 2am, your tea has gone cold, and you already know this one is different. Rob made her laugh until she cried. Lucy pretended she wasn't impressed. Nobody was fooled.
Chapter Two
A family, gathered up with both arms
Love, it turns out, is rarely just two people. It's school runs and sticky hands, cartoons on a Sunday morning, a car boot full of scooters and half-eaten snacks. They built something warm and noisy and entirely their own, and they wouldn't trade a single chaotic minute of it.
Chapter Three
The 20th of May, and a very sunny yes
A fountain. Blue sky. Rob, doing an admirable job of pretending to be calm while a ring burned a hole in his pocket. He built up the courage, started to kneel, only for Lucy to be distracted by a group of ducklings. Off she went to get a picture for Evie, only to return and exclaim 'it's a rubbish picture, you can't even see them'. Rob eventually built up the courage again, got down on one knee and popped the big question, to which Lucy then commented 'are you being serious' before finally saying yes.
Chapter Four
Sunflowers, sage green, and all of you
We celebrated with everyone we love under a canopy of fairy lights and far too many sunflowers on the 15th of August last year. And now we'd like to do it properly. On the 29th of May 2027, we're getting married in Bath, and the only thing missing is you.

A little more
about us
We first met back in 2013 when Lucy started working at the hotel where Rob already worked. We didn't really speak much at first, but eventually we started chatting and quickly became really good friends. When the hotel closed in 2018, life took us in different directions and we lost touch for a few years, both carrying on with our own lives. Then, when both of our relationships came to an end, we somehow found our way back to each other. We started talking again, picked up as though no time had passed, and have been pretty much inseparable ever since. Turns out, all those years ago, neither of us realised we'd already met the person we were going to marry. π€
Rob made the first move! He asked Lucy to meet him in the Matalan car park so they could go for a drive and have a chat. Lucy arrived early, got so nervous that she was just about to bottle it and drive homeβ¦ when Rob pulled into the car park. π Thankfully, she stayed! They went for a little drive, talked for ages, and the rest is history. Who knew a Matalan car park would be the starting point of forever? π€
It has to be the day Rob finally took over the planning! π Lucy is usually the one organising and booking absolutely everything, but this time Rob took complete control and wouldn't tell her a thing. He planned a whole surprise day at The Newt, and somehow managed to keep the biggest surprise of all quiet until he got down on one knee and proposed. π€ A very close second has to be our little trip to Ilfracombe. Ever since we got together, we'd been trying (and repeatedly failing!) to catch a really good sunset together. We finally got one, sat on the beach, eating fish and chips as the sun went down. Nothing fancy, just us, and absolutely perfect. π π€
Honestly, we're pretty happy doing anything as long as we're together! π€ We love a good road trip, Japanese car shows, family days out with all the kids, or snuggling up with a series, a brew and far too many snacks. But somehow even the boring everyday stuff, gardening, washing, jobs around the house, usually ends with us laughing at something ridiculous. We're basically each other's favourite person to do absolutely everything (and nothing) with. ππ€
We honestly have no idea yet! π We've never even been on a plane together, so one thing we do know is that our honeymoon will definitely involve flying somewhere! We're torn between going all-out on an adventure somewhere fun and fast-paced, Japan would be an absolute dream π―π΅, or doing the complete opposite and disappearing somewhere hot and beautiful to do absolutely nothing for a week or two. Greece, the Maldives or the Caribbean are all very tempting! βοΈπ΄ The only thing firmly ruled out is a cruiseβ¦ Rob gets seasick, and spending our honeymoon watching him turn green isn't quite the romantic newlywed experience Lucy has in mind. ππ€
There are two that stand out! One was one of our first proper dates at The Ashville Steakhouse. We were still at that stage where we were both slightly nervous about actually eating in front of each other πβ¦ but the food was so good that any attempt at being polite and attractive quickly went out the window! The other was our first proper meal after Lucy's gallbladder surgery. After around eight months of Lucy not being able to eat much decent food, with Rob sticking to it alongside her so she never felt like she was missing out, we headed to The Beefy Boys in Bath and ordered the dirtiest burgers and chips we could manage. ππ After months of boring food, it tasted absolutely incredible, greasy, messy and exactly what we needed! π€
Our first trip to Torquay will definitely take some beating! π We hadn't been together long and were both really excited, and secretly a little nervous, about our first proper trip away together. We set off in Rob's βtrustyβ Honda Civic Type R and, around 30 minutes from Torquay, things started to go slightly wrongβ¦ strange noises turned into a burning smell, followed by smoke trailing behind us, before the aux belt officially left the chat and the car promptly overheated. We managed to limp onto an industrial estate where breakdown confirmed the engine was, in technical terms, absolutely cream crackered. π What followed was a TEN-HOUR wait to be recovered back to Bristol. But somehow, instead of it ruining the trip, we laughed until our stomachs hurt, watched Netflix together on a phone, ate whatever snacks we could find and, when nature called, resorted to weeing in bushes. Thank God Lucy had wet wipes. π Eventually we were dropped at Rob's parents' house, borrowed their car and, because apparently we don't know when to admit defeat, drove all the way back to Torquay in the early hours of the morning, arriving at 3am. When we woke up the next day, it was completely worth it. We'd somehow landed in the most peaceful little bit of paradise with amazing hosts, breakfasts on the decking, a hot tub, fire pit and BBQ. We explored Torquay seafront and went on the big wheel, where Lucy discovered that shaking the basket when Rob is terrified of heights is apparently hilarious. Rob strongly disagreed. π We attempted Paignton (couldn't park, swiftly abandoned that idea!) and finished the weekend with a lovely Sunday roast before heading home. It definitely wasn't the smooth romantic getaway we'd imagined, but it ended up being so much better. Somewhere between the broken down Honda, ten hours stranded on an industrial estate, bush wees and finally waking up in our little slice of paradise, we realised just how well we fitted together. If we could have that much fun when everything went completely wrong, we knew we had something pretty special. π€
